Go to the Downloads tab and make sure you're downloading the 2008 version, not the 2005 version.

When trying to connect to the server get error:

It should work with R2. Can you run Profiler, connect to SSAS, then run the MDXScriptPerformance tool. After that's done, if you could save the profiler output to a file, start a new issue on the Issue Tracker tab and attach the profiler file, hopefully we can help you get to the bottom of this problem.

Hello:

I am running this MSX for SQL Server\Analysis Server 2008 R2 version. When i run MDX query in script window, i am getting no results. i run like 4 to 5 small ones & large ones. same response, no results.

Is this MDX works for SQL 2008 R2?

Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanking in advance.

The MDX query you paste into the app window is not modified at all. It is run repeatedly. The MDX script (the Calculations tab in the cube designer) is what varies. Each MDX query execution is done with more and more of the MDX script to determine which statement causes the MDX query to slow down.

So this app won't really do what you're wanting.

Hi,

I have downloded MDXScriptPerformance2008 tool and executed one mdx query. It generated for 113 mdx queries for single. Could you some one explain how mdx query is splited here and how to analyse out put columns :time Taken, delta and % of final query time. Our scope is to find the time taken by each mdx query when we run multiple query and find out which query is taking more time.

Firstly, thanks for this tool.

I dont see any graph for the MDX Query that I execute on the cube, that I have created. But, if I run the MDX Query as shown in the screenshots against Adventure Works cube, I get the result. There is no error associated with the Run Query event. Will there be output, if cube has less amount of data .. say 100 records to be obtained by running MDX?

You're just looking for the statement(s) in the MDX script which cause the performance of the MDX query to degrade. So if the MDX query was fast until it got to that line in the MDX script, then that's a calculation to look into optimizing. I wouldn't worry too much about the 95959 and what unit of measure that is. The important part is % of final query time, and which line in the MDX script that first spikes on.

And I would only run this on MDX queries which are slow to begin with.

I ran the profiler and found the issue. The cube I connected wasnt processed. When I run a test query, it spits out the MDX Script in the cube with the detla %

For instance, the below MDX script shows time taken as 95959, delta as -247241 and % of final query time as 98.2552245988757% : How do I interpret this result.

Its a test mdx query i ran. Although I was able to run the same query against the cube in mgmt studio. I am assigned as a user to the cube.

Do you have anything in your MDX script in that cube? Are you an administrator of that SSAS instance?

Hmm. I would run Profiler and connect to that Analysis Services instance and see if you can identify any error messages.

Thanks changed to 2008 and able to connect. I have run into another issue excuse me as I am new to this tool.When I enter the mdx query the results doesnt show the breakdown of the time taken. It just return me the same query I entered. I assume there is a defect but doesnt appear to show wht the issue is.

eg:

member [Measures].[MRP] as null
select [Measures].[MRP] on 0
from [cubename]

Sounds like you're using the 2005 version of MDX Script Performance Analyzer to try to connect to an SSAS2008 instance. Download the 2008 version from the Downloads tab on this site and try again.

Hi, Thanks for your reply....

Just I've tried again coping my MDX Script having 46271 characters into MDX Text Editor without download the latest source code, and strangely it is copied completely, I don't know what happened over night; yesterday it was not working for me. Anyway it’s good news for me only.

But when I Execute MDX it gives me proper result and when I did Analyze then it gives me following message in Message Window:

AXIS(1)(1).HIERARCHY.CURRENTMEMBER

Severity = 1

Line: No Information

Column: No Information

Message: Syntax error while parsing ‘(‘.

I don't know whether its issue in MDX Studio or not but MDX is working properly for me. But again due to it, I have to again make changes in my MDX for testing the Performance.

But I appreciate the Tool it is giving me points to be improved in my MDX.

I've just checked in a small code change that removes the 32,000 character limit in that textbox. (Boy that's a long MDX query!)

You'll have to download the latest source code from the Source Code tab and compile it yourself. We're not going to do a release just for this small fix.

I've written a MDX Script Generator Stored Procedures, which generates MDX based on parameters. MDX Script Columns may increase up to 150, in that case my MDX Script is going large & performance is going slow, I want to analyse the reason but when I paste my MDX to MDX Text Editor my MDX is not coping completely hence I'm not able to analysis my MDX as a whole but in parts, which is very pain-full. So please increase the Size of MDX Text Editor.
